Rammstein Asche zu Asche lyric with English translation

Warmer Körper
heißes Kreuz
falsches Urteil
kaltes Grab

Auf dem Kreuze lieg ich jetzt
sie schlagen mir die Nägel ein
das Feuer wäscht die Seele rein
und übrig bleibt ein Mundvoll
Asche

Ich komm wieder
in zehn Tagen
als dein Schatten
und werd dich jagen

Heimlich werd ich auferstehen
und du wirst um Gnade flehen
dann knie ich mich in dein Gesicht
und steck den Finger in die Asche

Asche zu Asche
und Staub zu Staub
Warm body
hot cross
wrong judgment
cold grave

I now lie on the cross
they hammer nails into me
the fire purifies the soul
and remaining is a mouthful of
ashes

I will return
in ten days
as your shadow
and I will hunt you down

Secretly I will rise from the dead
and you will plead for mercy
then I will kneel in your face
and stick my finger in the ashes

Ashes to ashes
and dust to dust

“Asche zu Asche” is usually interpreted as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, despite the lines “Ich komm wieder/in zehn Tagen”, which means “˜I will return/in ten days.’ During live performances, the microphones would catch fire when they began to sing the chorus, just as the cover of the single depicts.

  1. this song has NOTHING to do with jesus christ or his death on the cross! Because jesus died for our sin and won’ t hunt people to get them return to god. And got isn’t only a shadow, he’s real! And jesus get up to leave the grave at the third day! This is what the bibel says. Listen to their music and you’ll know, what they are living for!!

  2. The title of this song is Asche Zu Asche, but when I’m on this page, the name of my tab is “Weisses Fleisch”… would be nice if some admin would fix that.. Awesome song btw, one of my favs.

  3. The Crucifaction of Jesus Christ was not a singular event.

It had been used in plenty of instances before Jesus Christ, and several after.

    Evidence?

Jesus was crucified WITH two others. They were either murderers or thieves. I can’t remember.

Either way. Crucification of an individual was an extremely popular means of torture for enemies of the state. It was later removed from use for it was deamed inhumane.

  4. I love this song!

    My interpretation:

One person (A) is wrongly judged, misunderstood and “crucified” by another person or group (B). Later on, the conscience/memory of this cruel behaviour comes back to haunt B. – “Ich komm wieder
    in zehn Tagen
    als dein Schatten
    und werd dich jagen”

Some metaphors in this song are taken from the crucifiction of jesus story, but I have read that Till is an atheist, as I am too, of course.

  5. way i see the song (which is awesome), it’s just a general metaphor for venegance. nothing to do with christ or resurrection or the like, the first part is just the guy being falsely accused and ‘nailed to the cross and burned’, meaning he’s just being accused and convicted. all that remains is a mouthful of ashes. the bitter taste of injustice and the desire for revenge
from there on, the second part is pretty self-explanatory, no actual resurrection but just coming back and serving the cold dish of revenge
