I can relate so much with this music as i’m struggling with retroactive jealousy. I can’t stop thinking about my girlfriend’s ex sex partners, it’s like I’m forcing myself to ruin he relationship.

I find this song lot about depression and not coping things. The most difficult thing is being in love! So that’s why lyrics are dark and with no hope, only death brings peace.

this song is about avoiding happiness because it will bring pain. whenever you actually taste a bit of joy you will regret it because life is all about suffering. the more you try to be happy the more you suffer agony

“So halte ich mich schadlos” would be better – though less word-for-word – translated as “So I keep myself shielded”.

I’m sure that this lyric is inspired by the famous quote from Oscar Wilde’s “The Ballad of Reading Gaol” (1897): “Yet each man kills the thing he loves”. Charles Wooldrige, the subject of the poem, was a Royal Horse Guards trooper who killed his wife in a fit of jealousy.

I think this describes drug addiction perfectly. What I love must die and for everything beautiful you have to pay clearly point to that.

I don’t think it’s about the fear of commitment but more like about always being in pain from love. I and many others whenever we love someone we end getting hurted. lies cheating people which don’t like me back etc etc.it’s pretty clear from the ”So halte ich mich schadlos Lieben darf ich nicht” if we won’t love again we won’t get hurted again so you stay all alone in your pain just so you can avoid falling in crap again.

This lyrics means a lot to me. Everything I touch gets destroyed and every person I love, hurts me or I hurt them, and no matter what I can’t get happy because love just doesn’t do it for me, it damages me. If I avoid love, I will not hurt, however I still end up hurting because yeah, no love.

Wouldn’t a better translation for this be something like “So, I protect myself from harm”
schadlos halten literally translates to indemnify but the literal translation doesn’t always sound the best

I am reminded of an old quote from Till where he said something along the lines of, “Love is like a flower, even the beautiful kind dies.” I believe this song emphasizes that previous statement’s belief. To me, I interpret it as being about the fear of commitment as well. Anything you love can/will turn to ruin, will die, will disappear. Lovely song.

I think it isn’t “oh sterben” (“oh die”), at the end of the last line of the refrain, but rather, “muss sterben” (“must die”).

Also, I don’t think the song is about depression (although it has that sort of tone), but rather, about the fear of commitment.
We see the world from someone’s perspective who’s afraid to commit themselves to engage in anything (including love), due to a fatalistic mindset that everything will eventually die. The song isn’t so much about nihilism as it is about paranoid pessimism – which, I think, is far more widespread these days than actual nihilism.
