Ich habe einen Brief an mir I have a letter to me
Die Worte brennen auf dem Papier The words burn on the paper
Das Papier ist me-meine Haut The paper is me-my skin
Die Worte, Bilder, bunt und so laut The words, pictures, colorful and so loud

Zeig mir deins, ich zeig’ dir meins Show me yours, I’ll show you mine
Zeig mir deins, ich zeig’ dir meins Show me yours, I’ll show you mine
Zeig mir deins, ich zeig’ mir deins Show me yours, I’ll show you yours
Zeig mir deins, ich zeig’ dir meins Show me yours, I’ll show you mine

Wenn das Blut die Tinte küsst When the blood kisses the ink
Wenn der Schmerz das Fleisch umarmt When the pain hugs the flesh
Ich zeige meine Haut I show my skin
Bilder, die mir so vertraut Pictures that I trust so much
Aus der Nadel blaue Flut From the needle blue tide
In den Poren kocht das Blut The blood boils in the pores

Wer schön sein muss, der will auch leiden Who needs to be beautiful, he also wants to suffer
Und selbst der Tod kann uns nicht scheiden And even death can not divorce us
Alle Bilder auf meiner Haut All pictures on my skin
Meine Kinder so, so vertraut My children like that, so familiar

Zeig mir deins, ich zeig’ dir meins Show me yours, I’ll show you mine
Zeig mir deins, ich zeig’ dir meins Show me yours, I’ll show you mine

Wenn das Blut die Tinte küsst When the blood kisses the ink
Wenn der Schmerz das Fleisch umarmt When the pain hugs the flesh
Ich zeige meine Haut I show my skin
Bilder, die mir so vertraut Pictures that I trust so much
Aus der Nadel blaue Flut From the needle blue tide
In den Poren kocht das Blut The blood boils in the pores

Deinen Namen stech’ ich mir I steal your name
Dann bist du für immer hier Then you are here forever
Aber wenn du uns entzweist But if you divide us
Such’ ich mir jemand, der genauso heißt I’m looking for someone who is named the same

Wenn das Blut die Tinte küsst When the blood kisses the ink
Wenn der Schmerz das Fleisch umarmt When the pain hugs the flesh
Ich liebe meine Haut I love my skin
Bilder, die mir so vertraut Pictures that I trust so much
Aus der Nadel blaue Flut From the needle blue tide
In den Poren kocht das Blut The blood boils in the pores

  1. Could the following be more accurate?

    Aus der Nadel blaue Flut
In den Poren kocht das Blut

    Blue stream from the needle
boils the blood in the pores

  2. Wiener blut is also never sung. There could be some deeper meaning of like getting a tattoo of your partners name (Sophia thomalla)

  3. “Wer schön sein muss, der will auch leiden” is an adaptation of the proverb ‘wer schön sein will, muss leiden’, which translates to ‘who wants to be beautiful, must suffer’.
Since ‘will’ and ‘muss’ are swapped, I would use “Who must be beautiful, also wants to suffer” for translation.
“der” refers to “wer”, so if translated literally it would be “who must be beautiful, that one also wants to suffer”.

  4. “Wer schön sein muss, der will auch leiden” is a proverb which says that you have to suffer to be beautiful. I think the proverb in English is “no pain, no gain”.

  5. my friend got his partner’s name tattooed on his arm – only to split with her a few weeks later…what then? yes he found someone else with the same name……

  6. Oddly enough, what surprises me most is that I believe it’s the first song of theirs wherein the title is not actually spoken anywhere in the song. I dunno why I find that so interesting, but I do. Apart from that, I enjoy this being about the thrill and possessive sense of having tattoos.

  7. I find it kinda hilarious that, among their most darkest songs, they simply put in a song about how fun it is to have a tattoo…

Well, at least, that’s what it seems like, at first glance…

  8. It isn’t “Ich habe einen Brief an mir” it’s “Ich trage einen Brief an mir” and it means ” I carry a letter on me”
“Bilder, die mir so vertraut” means roughly “pictures, which I (know) intimately”
Also, “Meine Kinder so, so vertraut” is better translated as “my children, so so intimate”
“Deinen Namen stech’ ich mir” is ” Your name I engrave on me”

    With regards, Secundo

  9. I have a letter to me
The words burn on the paper
    The paper is me-my skin
The words, pictures, colorful and so loud

Show me yours, I’ll show you mine
Show me yours, I’ll show you mine
Show me yours, I’ll show you yours
Show me yours, I’ll show you mine

When the blood kisses the ink
When the pain hugs the flesh
    I show my skin
Pictures that I trust so much
    From the needle blue tide
The blood boils in the pores

Who needs to be beautiful, he also wants to suffer
And even death can not divorce us
    All pictures on my skin
My children like that, so familiar

Show me yours, I’ll show you mine
Show me yours, I’ll show you mine

When the blood kisses the ink
When the pain hugs the flesh
    I show my skin
Pictures that I trust so much
    From the needle blue tide
The blood boils in the pores

    I steal your name
    Then you are here forever
    But if you divide us
I’m looking for someone who is named the same

When the blood kisses the ink
When the pain hugs the flesh
    I love my skin
Pictures that I trust so much
    From the needle blue tide
The blood boils in the pores
