Eine Liebe, ein Versprechen One love, one promise
Sagt’ ich komm zurück zu dir Said I would come back to you
Nun, ich muss es leider brechen Well, I must sadly break it
Seine Kugel steckt in mir His bullet is stuck in me
Eine Liebe, zwei Pistolen One love, two guns
Eine zielt mir ins Gesicht One points into my face
Er sagt, ich hätte dich gestohlen He says I stole you
Dass du mich liebst He doesn’t know
Weiss er nicht That you love me

Roter Sand und zwei Patronen Red sand and two rounds
Eine stirbt im Pulverkuss One dies in a kiss of gunpowder
Die zweite soll ihr Ziel nicht schonen The second shall not spare its target
Steckt jetzt tief in meiner Brust Now is stuck deeply in my chest

Eine Liebe, ein Versprechen One love, one promise
Ach das Blut läuft aus dem Mund Oh the blood runs from the mouth
Und keiner wird mich rächen And no one will avenge me
Sinnlos gehe ich zugrund Senselessly I perish
Eine Liebe zwei Pistolen One love, two guns
Einer konnte schneller ziehen One could draw faster
Nun, ich bin es nicht gewesen Well, it was not me
Jetzt gehörst du ihm Now you belong to him

Roter Sand und zwei Patronen Red sand and two rounds
Eine stirbt im Pulverkuss One dies in a kiss of gunpowder
Die zweite sollt’ ihr Ziel nicht schonen The second which didn’t spare its target
Steckt jetzt tief in meiner Brust Now is stuck deeply in my chest

Roter Sand und weisse Tauben Red sand and doves*
Laben sich an meinem Blut Refresh themselves on my blood
Am Ende gibt es doch ein Ende At the end there is but an end
Bin ich doch zu etwas gut I am good for something finally

Roter Sand und zwei Patronen Red sand and two rounds
Eine stirbt im Pulverkuss One dies in a kiss of gunpowder
Die zweite sollt’ ihr Ziel nicht schonen The second which didn’t spare its target
Steckt jetzt tief in meiner Brust Now is stuck deeply in my chest

  1. I think this could be a sequel to Liese. The end result of the deflowering or rape (bearing in mind the overall pschology of the album, particuarly the title track). It may even be her Father he is facing. Think about it.

  2. Well, this song is what we call ”love at the first sight”. In that case of course the expression ”love at the first listen” is more suitable! I love the lyrics; they remind me old stories, in which two men were fighting for a woman’s heart! I also like the tragic end!
Rammstein did their best once more!

  3. I disagree with the lyrics being “white doves”. Remember, the scene presented in this song is most likely to be a beach scene(hence sand.) What white birds are there on the beach? Seagulls not doves, seagulls are scavenger birds and will eat dead animals, in contrast to doves who aren’t scavengers. That’s why I believe seagulls would be a more logical choice in this song.

  4. This song really puts me in mind of the old cowboy movies my Grandfather watches. Maybe it’s the overall image it provides me of a pair of gunslingers dueling.

  5. @SirColoneldoktorSauerkraut, its just a yodel, if u read in the booklet, it states Yodel on Rotersand(orch.v) by – name here, i dont think its just a word or two, perhaps a cry out of sorrow?

  6. Amazing song……and I consider myself very fortunate to see them live @ Nantes. Thanks to the Deutsch who are keeping the translations true to form. I’m Deutsch by only two generations…..my ancestors immediately spoke English here, but I’m very proud and respectful of my heritage. For any others….please understand that the “corrections” are not at all meant to be rude…..only imagine your native language butchered in song and how much better it’d be if given a more accurate read.

  7. Thanks Mads.
    I’m still not entirely convinced.
I know that the impression is that he dies senselessly, but I still think Rammstein chose certain words to suit the mood. And through translation you already lose so much, I prefer a more direct translation of the words to create the scene properly.

But, that’s just me. Thanks for the reply.

  8. I just have a small problem with the following translation.

Sinnlos gehe ich zugrund – Senselessly I perish

Now, the idea is that he is dying, but the translation should be:

    Senselessly go I to ground.

Just based on my own language, which is Afrikaans, which is like a mixture of Dutch/German/Flemish.
