Ich werde in die Tannen gehen I’m going to go into the fir trees
Dahin wo ich sie zuletzt gesehen There where I last saw her
Doch der Abend wirft ein Tuch aufs Land But the evening is throwing a cloth upon the land
und auf die Wege hinterm Waldesrand and upon the ways behind the edge of the forest
Und der Wald er steht so schwarz und leer And the forest it is so black and empty
Weh mir, oh weh Woe is me, oh woe
Und die Vögel singen nicht mehr And the birds sing no more

Ohne dich kann ich nicht sein Without you I cannot be
Ohne dich Without you
Mit dir bin ich auch allein With you I am alone too
Ohne dich Without you
Ohne dich zähl ich die Stunden ohne dich Without you I count the hours without you
Mit dir stehen die Sekunden With you the seconds stand still
Lohnen nicht They aren’t worth it

Auf den Ästen in den Gräben On the branches in the ditches
ist es nun still und ohne Leben it’s now silent and without life
Und das Atmen fällt mir ach so schwer And breathing becomes oh so hard for me
Weh mir, oh weh Woe is me, oh woe
Und die Vögel singen nicht mehr And the birds sing no more

Ohne dich kann ich nicht sein Without you I cannot be
Ohne dich Without you
Mit dir bin ich auch allein With you I am alone too
Ohne dich Without you
Ohne dich zähl ich die Stunden ohne dich Without you I count the hours without you
Mit dir stehen die Sekunden With you the seconds stand still
Lohnen nicht ohne dich They aren’t worth it without you

“Ohne dich” was released as the third single from the album on 22 November 2004 in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Other countries’ releases followed. It follows a slow, even romantic balladic style. The central motif is Without you, I cannot be, without you…, With you, I am also alone, without you…

The single includes as its 6th track the so-called beta version of what should have been part of Mutter. “Ohne dich” was planned for Mutter, but then dismissed.

The video was filmed in the Kaun Valley and on the Pitz Valley glacier in Tyrol, Austria. It shows the band members climbing and hiking.

  1. I love this song. Reminds me of a loved one in my past. It can also be about friends who you just can’t live without.

As for Rammstein, I think it’s about them never leaving each other and if just one of them leaves the band or dies, then Rammstein as a whole would cease to exist.

  2. Im afraid to say, its such a sign for Rammstein’s journey… theyre climbing to the top, together as one.

but then Till said that he will ‘retired’ when he’s 50, or even when one of the member die or leave. It is figured when Till fell on the video.

But then theyre still trying to reach the top of the mountain (career) , theyre trying as hard as they can.
As they finally on top, but then Till’s die. (retired).

    OMG i Love those guys.

    • Nope not at all, that might be the meaning behind the video but rammstein songs almost always have a different meaning than their videos.

  3. hey i just wanted to note that when it said “weh mir, oh weh”
it doesnt mean “woe is me ,oh woe”
It achualy means “pain me, oh pain”

  4. I totally love this song, the lyrics are exellent with alot of poetic expresions, and the day marry I want to dance this song with my husband (of course it’s going to be Richard Kruspe ja ja ja ja I wish..) but any ways this song is great!!!!I love it.
    ich liebe Rammstein!!!!!!!!!!

  5. This is only the second song I have heard that makes me emotional. This and Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters.
    Which is better?
    I can’t decide.

  6. HOLY CRAP!!! I love this song the video was so sad when TIll dies I cried #.# But then got better as a drug attic I can’t help but be grateful to it I feel not so bad haahaha like I care right!!!

  7. Woah, Till’s voice fits so well with this song… I mean, he has a high-pitched voice that is perfect for hard rock, but this song is so soft… but it’s still awesome. It has been said that German is the language of anger – maybe that’s not 100% true, since this song proved otherwise. Rammstein rocks!

  8. I cringe at the thought that these lyrics could be referring to drug addiction. Nevertheless, one of the things I particularly love about Rammstein lyrics is that their original meaning almost doesn’t matter; they are so versatile that you can apply them to a multitude of other situations that the band might never have even thought about.

And THAT, my friends, is why I listen to Rammstein.

  9. This song is so powerfull, it reminds me of when i got sent to afghanistan and my fiance left me, no matter how much i wanted her i couldnt reach her, when i got back home i tried so hard to get back with her and i eventually did and i too could just lie on the top of a mountain and die happilly now.
