Lyrics of Rammstein song “Armee der Tristen” and English translation

[Strophe 1] [Verse 1]
Bist du traurig so wie ich? Are you sad like me?
Dir laufen Tränen vom Gesicht? Tears are running down your face?
Komm zu uns und reih dich ein Come join us and get in line
Wir woll’n zusammen traurig sein We want to be sad together

[Bridge] [Bridge]
(Komm mit) (Come with me)
(Komm mit) (Come with me)

[Strophe 2] [Verse 2]
Warum stehst du noch am Rande? Why are you still standing at the sidelines?
Reih dich ein in unsre Bande Get in line with our gang
Wenn wir dann im Trist marschieren If we then march in sadness
Gar nichts, nichts kann dir passieren Nothing at all, nothing can happen to you

[Refrain] [Chorus]
Hand in Hand, nie mehr allein Hand in hand, never alone again
Hand in Hand, kein Blick zurück Hand in hand, no looking back
Komm, wir schließen unsre Reihen Come on, we are closing our ranks
Marschier’n im Gleichschritt gegen Glück Marching in lockstep against luck

[Post-Refrain] [Post-Chorus]
(Komm mit) Reih dich ein (Come with me) Get in line
(Komm mit) Im Gleichschritt (Come with me) In lockstep
(Komm mit) Reih dich ein und (Come with mе) Get in line and
Komm mit im Gleichschritt Come with mе in lockstep

[Strophe 3] [Verse 3]
Depressiv, betrübt, zerschlagеn Depressively, saddened, shaddered
Sollten wir zusammen verzagеn Should we despair together
Deprimiert und melancholisch Depressed and melancholic
Pessimistisch, diabolisch Pessimistic, diabolical
Gründen auf verblühten Rosen We are grounding on withered roses
Die Partei der Hoffnungslosen The Party of the Hopeless
Werde Mitglied, trete ein Become a member, join
Jeder darf es sein, herein! Anyone can be, come in!

[Refrain] [Chorus]
Hand in Hand, nie mehr allein (Komm mit) Hand in hand, never alone again (Come with me)
Hand in Hand, kein Blick zurück Hand in hand, no looking back
Komm, wir schließen unsre Reihen Come on, we are closing our ranks
Marschier’n im Gleichschritt gegen Glück Marching in lockstep against luck

[Post-Refrain] [Post-Chorus]
(Komm mit) Reih dich ein (Come with me) Get in line
(Komm mit) Im Gleichschritt (Come with me) In lockstep
(Komm mit) Reih dich ein und (Come with me) Get in line and
Komm mit im Gleichschritt Come with me in lockstep

  1. What if it’s about an army. Marching to their deaths. Together. Getting unsuspecting by standers to join the army.

  2. This isn’t really related to the lyrics, but the song structure is wrong here. What’s branded as the chorus is actually the pre-chorus and the “post-chorus” is the chorus.

  3. I don’t know about the song being about just giving up and being sad together. To me, it’s a song about feeling rejected and depressed, and banding together against the world that’s you. I first heard the song in concert, and even though I didn’t understand the lyrics the melancholy, but hopeful tone of the song spoke to me, and when I first read the translated lyrics I teared up a bit. It’s a very sweet song to open a concert with.

  4. i think this song relates to todays world and society being sad. instead of helping each other be happy, we all find things to be sad about. lets be sad together, rather than help each other.

    • I disagree. I feel that it’s about embracing your true self and being strong no matter what situation you are in. We are not alone, there are others like us out there.

      • the line “Marschier’n im Gleichschritt gegen Glück” kind of goes against your ideas… as they are going against happiness…

      • I agree with you, Christian. The line “Marchier’n im Gleichschritt gegen Glück” means they are marching against happiness and luck and the third verse’s lyrics further solidify this idea. However, the tone of the music, the tone of anger in addition to the lyrics of the chorus indicate that they are encouraging the depressed and despaired to come together against a world telling us that we HAVE to be otherwise.
