The band opened the set with the new song “Ramm 4″ which had made its live debut at Italy’s Gods of Metal festival in early June. A video of the performance can be seen below, along with other set highlights like “Du Hast” and “Reise, Reise.” As the show opened, guitarists Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers stood on individual platforms that slowly made their descent from above the lighting rig to the stage.
Rammstein ran through a number of other hits like “Amerika,” “Ich Will,” “Sonne,” “Amerika” and more, including a cover of Depeche Mode’s “Stripped” from their 1986 record Black Celebration. Closing the set was “Engel” (video below) from Rammstein’s sophomore effort, Sehnsucht, which saw a giant pair of metal wings lifted from the ground behind hulking frontman Till Lindemann. Stepping into the rig, the singer was lifted into the air, hovering over the stage with his new set of wings, which were then set ablaze as he remained suspended.
The band entered a temporary hiatus after performing at the Wacken festival in 2013, staying off the stage and out of the studio for over two years until an official announcement came, declaring Rammstein were “back on!” Celebrating their 21st anniversary, the industrial outfit released a career-spanning box set, containing 14 LPs in total including each studio album as well as a double LP of rarities. A new album is expected to arrive, but nothing official has been revealed as of this time.
