In a new interview with Alejandrosis, MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine was asked how he felt when the band reunited with Marty Friedman for two shows last year – first in February 2023 at Japan’s famed Budokan Hall in Tokyo and then in early August 2023 at the Wacken Open Air Festival in Wacken, Germany. Dave replied:
“It felt like we were playing with a friend. Marty is a very pleasant person to talk to. He’s very small, but as they say, dynamite is sold in small packages. Marty may be small, but he’s pretty damn powerful. And when we were playing together, there was a moment where he came over and leaned into me and I leaned into him, and it felt so natural because we’d done it before over the years. It came out beautifully!
I love him and wish him the best in everything he does. I think it would be great if we could get on stage together again in the future. I don’t want to do something like that too often because I think it would feel like a circus then. There are people that we have played with in the past, they are former members and I love and respect them, but I don’t think it would be good for us to perform with some of them again because I don’t know if they still play and if they even remember the different songs.”
