One of the most remarkable things about Rammstein is that their line-up has remained unchanged for their entire 21-year career. Watching Rammstein In Amerika, the documentary chronicling their rise to fame and subsequent breaking of the USA, you realise that the consistent personnel is literally just one of many, many impressive things about the German pyro-lovers.
The sold-out concert in New York’s Madison Square Garden was one of the milestones in Rammstein’s history. It’s time for a retrospective; today marks the release of the concert-film “Live from Madison Square Garden” as well as the 2-hour long director’s cut of the “Rammstein In Amerika” documentary, packed with personal moments from the band and previously unreleased archive footage. Old and new partners talk about their experiences, as do many of their colleagues from the US, who all have anecdotes to tell: Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Moby, CJ Ramone, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith), Iggy Pop, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley from KISS, Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit), Marilyn Manson, Melissa Auf der Maur, Scott Ian (Anthrax), Jonathan Davis and Munky Shaffer from Korn, Shawn Crahan (Slipknot), the actor Kiefer Sutherland (“24”) and many more.

I was at the MSG concert featured on the DVD, and I was very disappointed at how much footage from a Canadian show they used instead of footage from MSG. If it was just “Rammstein in Amerika” that’s one thing, Canada is obviously part of the Americas, but it specifically says the show is from NYC and, only a few parts are. Other than that, it’s freaking awesome.
