“Keine Lust”, also released as a single, digipack and two-track, describes the band’s disaffection with fame and money. The video, filmed in January 2005 and released a month later, portrays an aged, fat future version of the band, playing a reunion. Flake appears in a motorized wheelchair. At the end of the video, the rest of the band abandons Flake, after he arrives late. The video was nominated for the MTV European Music Awards in November 2005.
On the video “The Making of Keine Lust”, guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe discusses the meaning of the song and video:
“You know, after all of these years we’re full-up! Fame, success, money. We don’t want to do anything anymore! Nothing! That’s the idea in the song. We’ve returned to the starting point again. We just want to make music again. We don’t want all the circus that goes with it anymore. So, we meet up again, one more time, for one more performance – just to make music together. The fact that we are fat is just symbolic for excess. It’s really just about returning to the beginning.”
Ich habe Lust also means, I enjoy or I have fun, right. So ‘ich hatte lust mit grosse Tiere can also just mean ‘I used to think big animals were kind of cool’ as a statement of the utter blasé mindset. ‘Pff yeah at some point big animals were kind of fun but I don’t give a damn about anything anymore’.
“Ich hätte lust mit großen Tieren” could also just imply that he would like to “do it” with big animals and doesn’t have to be more philosophical than that. That’s atleast what I thought when I heard this song and doesn’t seem too off given that Rammstein usually not is too sensitive of a band… this interpretation has also been written in other translations. However, given that the video (and thusfor probably also the song) is sort of about musicians who made it and had too much and just got sick of it all (maybe like Elvis?) the interpretation given here of the big animals being the “big guys” in the industry could also be plausible. I’d sure like to find out though. Even as a student of German, I can’t really say 😛

Me and my sister were listening to this song the other day and I said “NO !! If he REALLY had keine lust he wouldn’t have written this song, because he has KEINE LUST !!”
You should say he has “EINE LUST !!”.
I think that it refers to them not wanting to be part of the big guys eg the rich and opulent ‘musicians’.
What does “I would feel like it with big animals” even mean ?
He thinks he probably would like to have intercourse with a wild animal or something but he’s afraid to try it. or that’s how I understood it.
“Ich hab’ keine Lust” does mean I have no desire, but in more colloquial terms it means I don’t feel like it. :]

You make good music with deep lyrics, and that’s what I like about you. I also think it’s great that you sometimes bring up the Taboo subjects such as “Mein Teil” and “Zwitter”. You are great musicians, and I will always enjoy listening to your songs.
