For the topic of Till I also wanted to add, that he once came home, outraged by his co=workers behavior. He told his Dad that none of them would bother, that their boss had 73rd Birthday and none of them would congratulate him, so Till took him for a beer and had a drink with him. He also said, that boss's wife was lying sick in the clinic and no one would bother to pay her a visit, and he ends, enbittered that "these people are no authority for me". Remember the line where Gitta states that Till makes sure "no one stands out/ no one is left alone, by himself/herself?" This is it.

Why should anyone make fun of you, Fellfrosch? :hug: That's a very interesting, thoughtful interpretation, I've never thought of that before! Till himself said that he wanted to leave his songs open to various interpretations.

It's not "his" song, Engel is written by Kruspe . But we sure get your point and I surely like the interpretation, Fellfrosh! Thx for sharing.

Till loves nature - he said in SZ MAgazine, that whenever the town makes him feel down'n blue he sets off to the village, where his Mutti lives and relaxes with the rest of family members and friends. Too bad his Granny and Dad are dead and cannot join them

I love the paraphrase. So it does kind of make sense then, I'm glad. I think I've said it elsewhere, but if Till retired now, I'd have to say that kinda sucks, but thank you so much, and enjoy! He deserves to spend all the time he wants with his family and travel and enjoy the money he's worked for, just like the rest of us. And that's definitely a good point to make with Nebel! Also something comes to mind from Messer, the title of the poem eludes me, about a grandmother dying. The imagery was a tad disturbing but I know better than to take his words literally.

Till himself said that he wanted to leave his songs open to various interpretations. And you know what came in to my mind after I'd read your post? Till once said: "Some people regard me as a devil, some as god - but I would appreciate if they just saw me as a human" I paraphrase, but it was something among these lines!
Oh also wanted to add up: Those times, when Till could not sing and had to reschedule a concert (2009) or an autograph signing session (2003) because he was down with fever and cold and lots of fans would whine like a baby. "What the..!" "That sucks..."! "No way, I want to see him now, I've been waiting so frigging long!" instead of "It's allright chum, pack yourself to bed and get some rest and get well!" Come on, guys?! Where's the empathy?! He's a HUMAN not a machine! He has the right to fell ill every once in a while! And what also makes me extremely irritated, that people believe Till is the every person he sings about and all these dark themes are the product of his "unhappy childhood" Jesus Christ, will they stop it!>.<
BTW I sometimes wonder if such songs like "Nebel" (just my thought, don't kill me!) may say sth about Gitta witnessing Werner's death and her mourn. Just a thought! But Hmm... it's been nagging me.

Just a thought...Do you think that there is a metaphor in Engel having to do with fame and success? The angels (elevated ones) love humans but they can't touch them. But they can't go to heaven either (true happiness in not having to depend on others for your joy). I guess another way of explaining it would be that they get joy from making us fans happy and trying to connect with us, but they are put so high up on a pedestal that people gossip and make up the mythology, so they are never really appreciated as themselves. They are just kinda stuck there in the middle....i don't know, make fun if you want but that's my two cents for today. :P
