  • Messer by Till Lindemann

    Hi guys,

sorry if I am in wrong section with my question and you already talked about it. I would like to know is there any chance that "Messer" is translated to english???

I would really like to get that book even in german, but of course english version would be the best.

As far as I know, it isn't.

" but of course english version would be the best."

Actually, I doubt it . Best version is always original, and with the help of some basic German, a dictionary and some users of this forum, you will enjoy any poem/lyric by Till Lindemann much more in German than in English.

I have this book, it is very good.

    Welcome, by the way!

I don't think there are any English versions but find yourself a German speaker to help you

Yeah, I know that songs, poems lose their meaning when they are translated from one language to another. Well anyway I plan to star to learn German....so let's see how that will end up.
I even have a German speaker I just need to find a way to bribe him to find a book for me and read it to me as a bed time story

^ I like your name btw ^^ ("Madeleine" is my actual name, but I go by Maddie) Nice to see a new face! I believe that Messer would be best in German also, due to the fact it is in its original language and there would be nothing lost in the translation; plus, the poetry would flow more

            Messer to english

            Hi Madeleine Von Sade,

I've got the book, and I'm trying to translate the poems to my mother touge. Neither german or english is my native language, but I can translate it back to english. (If you accept a translation from an autodidact german learner , If you do, then please pm me, and I'll give you a link where u can find them)

I was taking a look and suddenly I found an interesting post on Tumblr.

"Poems from "Messer" translated to English"

It's added "This is only a interpretive translation and accuracy is not guaranteed."
But here's the link if you are interested: http://deutscheliebe.blogspot.co.uk/

^ They're really heavy. almost each of them need a disclaimer, but nevertheless the beautiful dark flower of his soul shines through. Till is a true master of turning pain into beauty.

My take on Endlich, one of my favorites from Messer

                          -At last-
                          From downpour and high fever
a blazing light warms my forehead
that I found you, noble donors
who pass the scepter to me

Now I laugh when it pleases you
and dine when you are hungry
I only drink a toast to you
and tell only what you want to hear

I am like you have wanted me

Soon I will rise up like a lark
                          will rise in high fields
                          rich meadows always green
                          and dotted with moist knees

With a huge sickle I crop
and honey flows in all ways
to quench the hunger; also mine
I, there, steal the fruits on stilts

So I rise up like a lark
a bit of ink and paper
and the flesh slips from the bowel
yes, here, you can have it all

even the mercy for fair-minded fools

I fill the stomach and the pockets
And grant to you my alls and my existence
with every heartbeat a little bit more
so I can rise up like a lark

At last, ready for what’s important
                          even for the greatest sleep
and I am how you have wanted me
