Rammstein Tier lyric with English translation

Was macht ein Mann
was macht ein Mann
der zwischen Mensch und Tier
nicht unterscheiden kann
was

Er wird zu seiner Tochter gehen
sie ist schön und jung an Jahren
und dann wird er wie ein Hund
mit eigen Fleisch und Blut sich paaren

Was tust du
Was fühlst du
Was bist du
doch nur ein
Tier

Was macht die Frau
was macht die Frau
die zwischen Tier und Mann
nicht unterscheiden kann

Sie taucht die Feder in sein Blut
schreibt sich selber einen Brief
entseelte Zeilen an die Kindheit
als der Vater bei ihr schlief

Was tust du
Was fühlst du
Was bist du
doch nur ein Tier
What does a man do
what does a man do
who can't tell the difference
between human and animal
what

He will go to his daughter
she is beautiful and young
and then, like a dog, will
mate with his own flesh and blood

What do you do
What do you feel
What are you
but only a
Animal

What does a woman do
what does a woman do
who can't tell the difference
between animal and man

She dips the feather in his blood
and write herself a letter
lifeless lines to childhood
when her father slept by her

What do you do
What do you feel
What are you
but only a Animal

This song is about paedophiliac incest. The lyrics say of the father, “You are just an animal.” The daughter eventually kills the father and writes her story in his blood.

  1. I have a feeling that in a way it also means all humans…we shouldnt forget that we are all first an animal and then 2nd to that we are human(a type of animal)

  2. …Was macht die Frau
    was macht die Frau
    die zwischen Tier und Mann
    nicht unterscheiden kann…
On the one hand, that father deserved what he got. On the other, being profaned and broken since the childhood, she also becomes a beast, commiting a parricide after all.
And that is where the drama always is, one thing always leads to another, evil brings just evil. I like this dramatic (in a good meaning) art about Rammstein, majority of bands are very far from it.

  3. Just a correction:

“Was macht DIE Frau” should be translated “What does THE woman do”

“Was macht EINE Frau” = “What does A woman do”

    • Shouldn’t it be “Was macht die Mädchen” or “Was Macht eine Mädchen”
      Since “ Mädchen” means girl?

  4. @Aubrei –
Till has never been averse to writing about controversial topics, often because (as revealed in an interview), for some of the harder guitar riffs Richard and Paul come up with, he “can’t really think of anything else.”

I also love the poetic justice that, if it can’t come about in reality, can come true in artwork such as these song lyrics. This man — an insult to the name of father — sexually gratifies himself through the abuse of his own daughter. Said daughter later rids the world of this pitiful being, then writes about the whole thing… using her “father”‘s blood as ink.

  5. Um…the song make since on many different levels but I dont understand Till write something like this since he has two daugters of his own

    • For guys rape is just a subject matter for a song. They do not understand what a horrific experience it is for victims of such acts

      • “[Guys] do not understand what a horrific experience it is [rape] for victims of such acts.”

Yeah? And how would YOU personally know that *for a fact* exactly, or in fact you just pulled that claim out of your ass? You think “guys” don’t get raped and abused too? What do you know about their experience with rape and “understanding” of such a thing? Do you even care at all?

What a narcissist. This is typical solipsism at its finest also, because nothing exists nor matters outside your own experience (or the experience of your particular gender, for that matter) so no one but you could possibly understand “such acts”, let alone write a song about it, God forbid.

Jonathan Davis, the singer of a little band you might have heard of called Korn, wrote a song called Daddy. I’ll let you do the math, see if that helps you be more human.

And Rammstein might not have first-hand experience of rape themselves (I hope not!), but that doesn’t mean they can’t write a song about it. Artistic freedom, anyone?

So in my humble opinion, your opinion it’s an stupid, especially callous, misinformed, self-serving, and invalid one.

  6. Yah, I just noticed today that there was a Rammstein song on the Savage Nation, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember which one despite how much R+ I listen to. I had to go home and figure it out. XD
