Eine Liebe, ein Versprechen One love, one promise
Sagt’ ich komm zurück zu dir Said I would come back to you
Nun, ich muss es leider brechen Well, I must sadly break it
Seine Kugel steckt in mir His bullet is stuck in me
Eine Liebe, zwei Pistolen One love, two guns
Eine zielt mir ins Gesicht One points into my face
Er sagt, ich hätte dich gestohlen He says I stole you
Dass du mich liebst He doesn’t know
Weiss er nicht That you love me

Roter Sand und zwei Patronen Red sand and two rounds
Eine stirbt im Pulverkuss One dies in a kiss of gunpowder
Die zweite soll ihr Ziel nicht schonen The second shall not spare its target
Steckt jetzt tief in meiner Brust Now is stuck deeply in my chest

Eine Liebe, ein Versprechen One love, one promise
Ach das Blut läuft aus dem Mund Oh the blood runs from the mouth
Und keiner wird mich rächen And no one will avenge me
Sinnlos gehe ich zugrund Senselessly I perish
Eine Liebe zwei Pistolen One love, two guns
Einer konnte schneller ziehen One could draw faster
Nun, ich bin es nicht gewesen Well, it was not me
Jetzt gehörst du ihm Now you belong to him

Roter Sand und zwei Patronen Red sand and two rounds
Eine stirbt im Pulverkuss One dies in a kiss of gunpowder
Die zweite sollt’ ihr Ziel nicht schonen The second which didn’t spare its target
Steckt jetzt tief in meiner Brust Now is stuck deeply in my chest

Roter Sand und weisse Tauben Red sand and doves*
Laben sich an meinem Blut Refresh themselves on my blood
Am Ende gibt es doch ein Ende At the end there is but an end
Bin ich doch zu etwas gut I am good for something finally

Roter Sand und zwei Patronen Red sand and two rounds
Eine stirbt im Pulverkuss One dies in a kiss of gunpowder
Die zweite sollt’ ihr Ziel nicht schonen The second which didn’t spare its target
Steckt jetzt tief in meiner Brust Now is stuck deeply in my chest

Translation Notes:

* Tauben = pigeons, weisse Tauben = white pigeons = doves

  1. It should be white doves, right? Weisse Tauben = white doves, it even says in the translation lower on the page 😛 seems to be missing in the lyrics.

    • Tauben = pigeons, weisse Tauben = white pigeons = doves
“white pigions” pretty much means doves in German, so having the word “white” in the english translation is pretty pointless.

  2. I agree with the previous comment – This is a song I’ve stayed away from for the most part of my Rammstein-listening, but now when I’ve finally grasped most of the German language, I realize the beauty and mastery that this piece is. Till Lindemann is a very talented writer, and one of a kind. Someone who has not delved into the depths of this music might shun the term “broad” here, but I would definitely say Till has a broad range when it comes to lyricism and poetry.

    • Well, Simon, you must be extremely smart if you have managed to almost grasp the beauty of the German language! I have to say, I am pretty old and I still can’t manage to memorize the difference between kussen and kissen… I agree that the lyrics are somewhat “broad.” I mean, it’s pretty standard that a woman twists around the hearts of two guys without telling one about the other, the two guys have a duel, and Till drops dead. You should definitely get in touch with him — I am sure he will greatly appreciate your generous appraisal of his work! By the way, I don’t understand the bit about the white Doves drinking Till’s blood — shouldn’t it be buzzards? There must be a mistake in the translation!

  3. It’s a times like these, listening to the real beauty of the German language, that I truly realize that Till Lindemann is a lyrical genius and may be the best singer I have EVER heard in any language. D*mn he can sing…

  4. Everyone is missing the point. This is very simple. Two men decided to duel over a woman and the the loser (who is the speaker) has relented. Roter Sand is his blood in the sand after the duel he has lost. Very simple.

  5. Hey guys….great comments about a great song….but keep it simple…to a point at least…go with your first gut feelings…and all of our interpretations are right….cos that’s the way we hear/see the song….it’s ART!!!!!
p.s. but go the old western shoot out!!!!

  6. Guys, guys, sorry to doublepost or whatever you’d like to call it but I just got an idea. What if the other guy, the killer, what if he’s the dad? The girls father? “Er sagt, ich hätte dich gestohlen” “He said I would have stolen you.” Now who does that sound like? That would also explain the reluctancy of the girls lover, if there was any. He’d be shooting her dad. Oh my, that’s even sadder that I thought in the beggining. Oh, and as for the belinging part, the daughter now belongs to her father so he can marry her to whomever he wants.
Hmm… this might be a stupid theory but It sure is sad so I’ll go find some hankies now. ^^
