The song is titled Rammstein, with two “m’s”, after the band, but it refers to the Ramstein airshow disaster of 1988. In the Live aus Berlin performance of “Rammstein”, singer Till Lindemann ascends from underneath the stage, via a trap door. He wears a burning coat, and special goggles from which a laser beam is projected, from one of the lenses.
While performing the song in the 2004-05 “Ahoi” tour, the jacket was replaced with dual arm mounted flame throwers(although the jacket was worn once during a performance in Japan).
Midway through the performance at the Bizarre Festival 1997, Rammstein cut to the Eskimos and Egypt remix, or their version of it, at least, from the Engel Fan-Edition single.
I think you heading in the right direction “SarahMund”. I had read about this elsewhere. If you look at each verse there is a description of human horror at the destruction and death at the Rammstein Airshow crash: A man is burning; a child is dying; mothers sreaming; a mass grave, etc. But the last line in each verse is “The Sun is Shining”.
The idea from what I read is Rammstein is commenting on our tendency to focus on what is happening to us (and usually the worst of what is happening to us). We rarely put things into perspective. So each verse in the song is a very dramatic description of the horrors of the disaster – and I agree with you, any disaster, but then they point out “The Sun is Still Shining”. In the big scheme of things the disaster, we, are essentially insignificant. If you’re willing to see it, the song puts it in perspective.

I’m pretty sure the song you’re looking for is song 7 off the album “Mutter”. The song is Spieluhr and the lyrics for the spoken word beginning are:
Ein kleiner Mensch stirbt nur zum Schein
wollte ganz alleine sein
Das kleine Herz stand still fuer Stunden
So hat man es fuer tod befunden
Es wird verscharrt in nassem Sand
Mit einer Spieluhr in der Hand
Hope this helps.
Im trying to find that song that it sounds like he’s saying “ Eine kleiner nichts, nuttenshugen” im sure I completely butchered that… its slow part before fast song, was it heirarte mich “ marry me song”? Or off that album?
I think this song has a deeper meaning than the air disaster. It may have inspired some thoughts that led to this song. I see links with Das Alte Leid on this album alone as well as certain horrors seen the world over throughout history.
Worth reading it without the air show in mind.
Hey Ryuk! No offence but vampiric nature? Seriously? Why not just use one word? Vampiric sounds so much better.
Does anybody know what effect Richard used in the solo of Live aus Berlin of this song?
It sounds like he’s using a Wah pedal and maybe some reverb. Hes slowly “swelling” the wah from one side to the other to get that gradual sweep on the signal frequencies, then rocking the wah a bit faster when the lead continues into the final refrain.
The part that says “no birds are singing anymore” reminds me of a story my parents told me about when they went to Germany when the wall was still up. They went to East Germany where it was so desolate due to the Berlin Wall being up. My father noticed that there were no birds and had my mother (who speaks German) ask a guard why there were no birds. I think the guard said that it was because there was no food scraps or trash or something.
I wonder since Till grew up in East Germany, if he was referring to that.
This is my ringtone 🙂
…What the hell happened to this thread? With a few exceptions, most of it has been random and irrelevant…
im an aussie by the way
hell yeah
Mothers are screaming
???????? ? ??????? ??????. ? ???? ????? ????? ?? ?????? 🙂
Rammstein is the best band, but don’t do nothing but say “RAMMSTEIN IS THE BEST WOO RAMMSTEIN!!!” ect. And I wish to say that look out for a band in the future called “Vampiric Nature” it will be my band, just like Rammstein and we will play tributes to Rammstein. Oh ja Babetime do nicht say stuff like that it ist bull shit.
P.S. I am making my own “Language” Vampirica, Teil German, und Teil English, all du know of German mixed with German.
Aufwedersehn.
