Wir durften nicht dazugehören We weren’t allowed to belong
Nichts sehen, reden oder hören Couldn’t see, talk, or hear anything
Doch jede Nacht für ein, zwei Stunden But every night for one or two hours,
Bin ich dieser Welt entschwunden I disappeared from this world
Jede Nacht ein bisschen froh Every night a little bit happy,
Mein Ohr ganz nah am Weltempfänger my ear so close to the receiver *(1)

Radio, mein Radio Radio, my radio
Ich lass’ mich in den Äther saugen I let myself get sucked into the airwaves
Meine Ohren werden Augen My ears become eyes
Radio, mein Radio Radio, my radio
So höre ich, was ich nicht seh’ So I hear what I can‘t see
Stille heimlich fernes Weh Secretly satisfying my wanderlust

Wir durften nicht dazugehören We weren’t allowed to belong
Nichts sehen, reden oder stören Couldn’t see, talk or disturb anything
Jedes Liedgut war verboten Every song was forbidden
So gefährlich fremde Noten Such dangerous foreign notes
Doch jede Nacht ein wenig froh But every night was a little bit happy
Mein Ohr ganz nah am Weltempfänger My ear so close to the receiver

Radio, mein Radio Radio, my radio
Ich lass’ mich in den Äther saugen I let myself get sucked into the airwaves
Meine Ohren werden Augen My ears become eyes
Radio, mein Radio (mein Radio) Radio, my radio (my radio)
So höre ich, was ich nicht seh’ So I hear what I cannot see
Stille heimlich fernes Weh Secretly satisfying my wanderlust

Jede Nacht ich heimlich stieg Every night I secretly climbed
Auf den Rücken der Musik onto the back of the music
Leg’ die Ohren an die Schwingen laid my ears down on the wings
Leise in die Hände singen singing quietly into my hands
Jede Nacht und wieder flieg’ Every night and again,
Ich einfach fort mit der Musik I just fly away with the music
Schwebe so durch helle Räume Floating this way through brightly-lit rooms
Keine Grenzen, keine Zäune No borders, no fences

Radio, Radio Radio, radio
Radio, Radio Radio, radio

Radio, mein Radio (mein Radio) Radio, my radio (my radio)
Ich lass’ mich in den Äther saugen I let myself get sucked into the airwaves
Meine Ohren werden Augen My ears become eyes
Radio, mein Radio (mein Radio) Radio, my radio (my radio)
So höre ich, was ich nicht seh’ So I hear what I cannot see
Stille heimlich fernes Weh Secretly satisfying my wanderlust

*(1) “Weltempfänger” (Lit: “world receiver”) refers to a shortwave radio receiver that can receive international broadcasts, as compared to a regular radio that only receives local stations.

  1. I find it interesting that Till is dressed as Charlie Chaplin, excepting Rotzbremse. In a vicarious way he is depicting Hitler, as Charlie Chaplin was himself making fun of Hitler. Rammstein is as visually power as they are musically. Some of their videos are absolute works of art in their own right. They will take it right over the edge and damn the fire.

  2. So first of all, the song is kinda sorta about the life in the communist block, where there were forbidden radio frequencies, in which you were able to be informed of the latest news of the actual world and the latest music
Of course, this was forbidden, so it was aired from the western countries, mostly Western-Germany..
And this video sharpened the edges by adding not only the deny of the radio, but the general disrighting(I have no idea that this is a real word, but I hope you can understand) of the women BY men
    So the message is clearer
As every regular citizen are female, this referes as they are the base of the society, and yet the most disrespected part
And this adds of the power of the femminist activism(of the XX cemtury), where women fought for their rights.
All in all, the regular people are portrayed by women in order to add another layer of power and a little help to understand the song
I hope I sound just as whole as I see it myself

    • Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy man why do radfems have to insert their insane imaginations into everything….

WWII Germany and Communist East Germany are both depicted here, where *the vast majority* of people disappeared for wrongthing, WERE THE MEN FIGHTING AGAINST IT, *not* women, and guess who was out being exploited financially just to bring home those luxuries for the family to enjoy? Thats right, men.

At no point, for any reason, at any point in history, have women been the majority of exploitation victims, including sexual exploitation, gay men exploiting and grooming young boys far outweigh straight men doing nasty stuff to girls, sorry, but fact, but it gets hidden because apparently its ok for that to happen, hence well loved men like Freddy Mercury or pretty much any male politician or catholic priest in any western nation getting away with it completely scot free, you just whine and bitch and moan about it more (which is why you get nowhere) while actual real victims of exploitation, male or female, get the hell on with their lives.

      Just stop already. Grow up.

      • Hey man just wanted to let you know that you’re really stupid. I hope you get over it someday and stop making me read incel sexist bullshit when i just wanted to see what others thought of the lyrics to the song

  3. dazugehören refers to being a part of a group, so nicht dazugehören means they’re not allowed to be part of the group

  4. I feel like this is a personal song from the band members reminiscing on growing up in East Germany, where media from the West was forbidden, including music and movies.
