FORUM RULES ABOUT WEB-BASED LINKS TO MUSIC AND VIDEO'S

Based on latest discussions on this forum, and studiing copyright laws, it is necessary to state out new forum mandatory rules, effective immediately, so, here we are.

LINKS TO MUSIC & VIDEOS: what is legal/what is not.
NEW RULES in the forum state:

From now on in our forum users shal NOT POST TOPICS THAT containin the following :
• Requests for or links to MP3s, music videos, or other files of questionable legality
• Bootlegs

So, please do not POST A LINK TO music or videos which does not directly originate from an officially legal site.

An OFFICIALLY LEGAL SITE is: rammstein.com or rammstein.de, universal music, a legitimate music site like MTV or VIVA. The links must be direct and linked only to the approved site. Any links which have copied and transferred the music or videos from an official legal site to ANYWHERE else are NOT OFFICIAL.

• Do not ASK FOR A LINK to music or videos. If there is a legal site for either listening or viewing, xTERNAL will provide the information in the NEWS section of www.RAMMSTEIN-EUROPE.com.

WHAT YOU CAN DO in the forums: You can DISCUSS a new song or a new video.

WHAT YOU CANNOT DO in the forums: provide illegal links or ask for links, give directions of any kind as to where something might be found (examples: file-sharing, other fansites, etc.). Screen caps will be allowed (within reason) AFTER a video has been made available through an OFFICIAL LEGAL LINK. Fan remixes of songs will be allowed (within reason) after the song has been officially released.

The above restrictions are necessary not because we are being “damn babies” or “. The reason is simply that RAMMSTEIN-EUROPE has made the decision to not be a facilitator of illegal activities involving copyrighted material. The reason for that is also clear. Rammstein’s Management has shown aggressive behaviour in combating copyright infringement.

Anyone who violates the spirit of the aforementioned expansion/explanation of what the RULES mean here as applied to music and videos (and this also includes the "making of videos") will meet up with one of the following consequences:

POST BLOCKED, LINK ERASED AND WORSE.... BANNED IF NECESSARY.

If you have ANY questions about what may or may not be acceptable here, you can always PM a Moderator and ask first before posting something that might get you in trouble here.

•any links to www.youtube.com (or other sharing sites of a similar nature)are generally not allowed.
While some videos like fan made items or spoof animations are allowed, we do not allow linking to youtube. Oftentimes there is/are illegal videos of Rammstein performances to the side of the linked videos. Actual Rammstein Videos which are very illegal to be hosted by that site - therefore we cannot allow links to youtube to be allowed.

So, links to youtube are now allowed - ONLY IF it is a fanmade video by you, and does not contain bootleg footage or footage of live performances or released performances. Stills from photos found on the net are OK. A montage is OK. Clips of released footage are NOT OK.

Please try to understand that sometimes while we may allow a certain individuals fanmade videos, and deny another persons it is usually because the content in it could get the forums in trouble.

Also if some individuals post their fanmade video and it turns out to be bootleg footage that they filmed themselves at a concert and consider that "fanmade" - then we will have to reverse the ruling on allowing fanmade videos PERIOD!

Here is an update on what is considered "fanmade".
Fanmade is fanmade. You did it yourself. Like cut and paste. You creatd everything yourself. No footage filmed by someone else no clips. Still images are OK.
For example:
If you go out and find 6 banana slugs in the yard, dress them up in LAB outfits, and put the skinniest one in a paper boat and play the music to SEEMANN on a kazoo. That is fanmade.

If you have a coverband and you do your own video or you have footage of YOUR band's performance. That is fanmade.

If you have images that you sketched of how you think the video for a song should have been and you put it to music - I think we can allow that.

Use your creativity.

IF YOU SEE VIOLATION OF THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, REPORT IT BY USING THE EXCLAMATION MARK IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER OF RELEVANT POST.

  • University research based on Rammstein. Please contribute!

Hello everyone, I am currently doing research as part of my university degree. I have chosen the basis of my research to be on Rammstein, and how their music breaks language barriers. I have composed a short questionnaire, and if you could take the time to fill it out and post it here I would be very grateful. Please leave me the details of what country you live in, your gender and your native language! Thank you.

Q1> Are you fluent in German?

Q2> Why do you like Rammstein?

Q3> What does their music say to you?

Q4> What is your favourite song by Rammstein?

Q5> What does this song mean to you? How do you interpret it?

    1) No
    2) Their music really appeals to me the whole sound the militaristic undertones, the sometimes dancy style and the heavy guitars with minimal instrumental solos that do not run for too long. Also their live act and general visual representation
    3) It doesn't say much to me as a comfort or as an angst breaker - it is a necessity, an addiction if Rammstein ended I would probably grieve
    4) Pussy
    5) the song itself is fun, the music is dancy and the lyrics are funny, it has a nice shock factor to it due to its bluntness. What it means to me is that someone has decided to travel for the purposes of sex. Do I take the song seriously? No? The song itself has no personal meaning to me I just think it's fun

      1) No.

      2) Because their music geniously mixes electric and heavy metal tones together with strong vocals, making a somewhat unique, "rammsteinish" style. Their live shows sound even better and have perfectly choreographed lights, stunts and fireworks (and lots of pure fire). Their image is both serious, funny, scary and sad.

      3) It's hard to express it in words. It's like poems and dark motion pictures put together. I think they speak to you in art, rather than words. I mostly find human relations and sexuality expressed very raw and even disturbing in their songs.

      4) Sonne.

      5) I was very depressed almost two years ago when I had no one to tell my problems and felt very lonely. Then came my current girlfriend, who became my true partner in every single aspect of life and is a very beautiful, intelligent and lovely girl. It's the same as with "Amarillo" by Gorillaz. She's the sun herself.
Aside from this, it's one of the best metal songs in music history.

Q1> Are you fluent in German?

        No, I am not

Q2> Why do you like Rammstein?

I like their music, but if I said that I am a fan only because of their music, I would be lying. Rammstein for me is more than just a band. I love their stage show, and their presence on stage. Its not just the pyros, its their presence, specially the presence of frontman Till Lindemann. They are a group of 6 extremely carismatic artists. They also have produced a good number of videoclips that I just don't see any other band making.

Q3> What does their music say to you?

I think their music is all about anger, specially the first 3 albuns. The other albuns also have darkness, but they lack the amount of anger that the first 3 had. Their lyrics are also very provocative.

Q4> What is your favourite song by Rammstein?

        Mein Herz Brennt.

Q5> What does this song mean to you? How do you interpret it?

I'm not a lyrics kind of guy, so I don't interpret it. I just admire it has a whole. I think it has a tremendous power.
"Which is better, eternal happiness or a ham sandwich? It would appear that eternal happiness is better, but this is really not so! After all, nothing is better than eternal happiness, and a ham sandwich is certainly better than nothing. Therefore a ham sandwich is better than eternal happiness."

Q1> Are you fluent in German?

Yes (although it's not my mothertongue, I learned it at university)

Q2> Why do you like Rammstein?

Their music is very powerfull (energetic, just like the band behind it) and the lyrics are very good (provoking, but well-overthought, interesting, about themes or from perspectives you can't find in other music). This creates a music that's quite unique and can't really be succesfully classified in any genre.

Q3> What does their music say to you?

Their music can give me strength and energy when I need it or lets me blow off steam. For me the music has a very vitalistic dimension, even though it's sometimes quite melancholic.

Q4> What is your favourite song by Rammstein?

          Keine Lust

Q5> What does this song mean to you? How do you interpret it?

This song evolves for me from egoistic self-assuredness into loneliness and melancholy. The song begins hard and though but changes into sadness. In the end it goes back to the energetic beginning. Litterally it's about a person who's fat and therefore lost the appetite for anything, but eventually realises he's nothing without desires, he's as good as dead (or you can see it as if he still has a desire, for woman implies the videoclip, but that's a lost case for him, he might be rich and wealthy but his condition blocks his real happiness).
This all combined with great riffs, great singing and epic keyboards.

              1. No
              2. I like Rammstein because in my opinion their music is the perfect mix of different elements from different genres. I especially like the more hard rock/metal elements such as the heavy guitars but overall, I think that it is all spectacular. I also really love their live shows and their use of pyros and such. I haven't had the chance to see them live however their photos and DVDs speak for them.
              3. Their music, to me is about anger and love. All kinds of love, both PC and non-PC which is good.
              4. Stein um Stein
              5. Personally the song doesn't "mean" anything as in I don't have a personal identification. I interpret it to be about the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain. Given that they grew up in the East, on the not so pleasant side of the Iron Curtain, I imagine that this would probably be the closest and best way to describe it. To have a house built around you with no doors or windows, that is a really good description of what it may have felt like to live in the East.

I live in the US, I speak English.

Hope this helps a little bit!

                Hi!

I joined this board for one reason -- and that was to reply to your post. I'm glad to see someone doing research on Rammstein. I might do the same myself later. Anyway, on to the questions!

                1. Fluent in German?

Yes. But it's not my mother tongue; English is. I am American, live in the US, and have a graduate degree in German.

                2. Why do I like Rammstein?

For a number of reasons, but the first is because they sing in German. I love German. It's a beautiful language, and underrated. The music is great, too, but the most important thing about the band is that they sing in German. If they were to switch to English and stop singing and writing German, I wouldn't be nearly as interested.

                3. What does their music say to me?

Their music, and their overall demeanor, say to me that it's okay to be German, even with all our negative stuff. It's okay to enjoy being German. It's okay to wear traditional clothing.

I know a lot of people say they are neo nazis. I certainly cannot tell what is truly in their minds and hearts, but I interpret the band differently. To me, it says, we accept our shadow side and we can even take it lightly and play with the symbols.

                4. Favorite song.

Haven't heard ALL of them, yet, but the song that got me interested in the band was "Du Riechst so gut."

                5. What the song means to me.

The importance of the sense of smell in German culture. For example, Germans say "ich kann jemanden nicht riechen." It means, quite literally, I cannot smell someone. What it means is that the speaker just cannot bear to be around the person -- does not wish to "smell" him. (Redensarten-Index: jemanden nicht riechen koennen)

That told me -- hey, this band is REALLY in touch with some of the deeper aspects of German culture -- I'd better check these guys out.

                Good luck with your research!

Q1> Are you fluent in German?
A: No, I am not. I understand a few words here or there, but not much.

Q2> Why do you like Rammstein?
A: It's not something I can actually explain quite clearly. The songs, the stage presence, the pyro, the strange language..... everything has it's own part contributing to the love that I feel for them. They were the first band that I really loved, so even that, gives me a special feeling for them I guess

Q3> What does their music say to you?
A: The sound says more to me than the lyrics themselves. Listening to them is another way to get your anger out, even if you are not angry at the moment

Q4> What is your favourite song by Rammstein?
                  A: Links 2 3 4

Q5> What does this song mean to you? How do you interpret it?
A: I find it special, because it was the way that they found to show the world that they are not nazis. It was used to show the people how wrong everyone was. It taught me that people get wrong ideas of you, and you can make something good to change that.

Q1> Are you fluent in German? - No

Q2> Why do you like Rammstein? Best stage shows I have ever seen, been to many, many gigs and by far the best band live.
Its all about the LIVE, being as close to the stage and near the side speakers and smelling/feeling the Pyro, the sound hitting the body. For me there is no better buzz

Q3> What does their music say to you? - Does'nt really say anything, I do not understand Rammstein lyrically all I know is I enjoy most if not all of their songs and enjoy their music more when I can see them play live.

Q4> What is your favourite song by Rammstein? Changes Month to Month currently
Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen is my current fav, opening sequence of Pussy always makes me smile

Q5> What does this song mean to you? How do you interpret it?
Means enjoyment, out come the Air Drums/Guitars.

Q1> Are you fluent in German?
Pretty fluent yes. Not my native tongue tho, that would be Dutch.

Q2> Why do you like Rammstein?
I guess I like Rammstein because it's quite intense. Heavy, powerful and energetic music. Lots of guitars in it too. I love them because their lyrics are quite absurd to be honest, but very well thought and interesting. I love them for their live performances with all the pyro's and stuff. I love them because they sing in German which I think is a beautiful language (and I agree with what Irgendwie stated above: If they'd stop singing in German they'd not even be half as interesting as they are now )

Q3> What does their music say to you?
Their music gives me strength when I need it, can pull me through anything, gives me energy when I have a lot of work to do and it actually makes me happy to listen to Rammstein!

Q4> What is your favorite song by Rammstein?
Changes from week to week, but Sonne has a permanent place at the top for me.

Q5> What does this song mean to you? How do you interpret it?
About something that's the center point, the sun in one's universe. Which doesn't necessarily have to be a good thing, and can eventually lead to their downfall.

I'm from the Netherlands, and my native language is Dutch.
